This chocolate protein bar recipe is fast, easy, simple, and is sure to be a healthy family favorite!
This delicious chocolate protein bar recipe has become one of my frequent staples because they are easy and fast to make, are a great on-the-go snack, and…taste like dessert!
I prefer using black beans, though I do sometimes swap the black beans for white navy beans. I would not recommend garbanzo or other beans as the flavor and texture would be off, and too dense for these bars.
About half the time when making these I add in mashed sweet potato (sometimes even the purple sweet potato, which is not only such a pretty color, but gives your body some of those purple phytochemicals). This gives the bars a more fudgy, smooth texture and a wonderful rich flavor!
And, a little secret…when I’m snacking on these bars at home (versus on the go) they’re ah-mazing with some cream…putting the bar in a small bowl and drizzling some cream on top (or to be honest, usually a bit of a bar and a swig from the carton of the cream, lol). THIS is my favorite cream that we have here locally, but if you have access to local raw cream, that would be even better!

Bree’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Protein Bars
- 1 15-oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 scoop plain or chocolate protein powder (SP Complete by Standard Process)
- ¼ cup raw cacao powder
- 1/4 tsp Redmond’s Real salt
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup or unrefined cane sugar (or additional to taste)
- 4 TBSP butter or unrefined coconut oil, softened
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 egg
- 2-4 TBSP unsweetened almond milk (or substitute of choice)
- Optional: 1/3 cup mashed sweet potato
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Using additional coconut oil, grease an 8×8 square pan. Combine all ingredients in a high-quality food processor or blender, and blend until absolutely and completely smooth. Pour the batter into the greased pan. Cook 20-25 minutes, when a toothpick or fork is inserted comes out clean the bars are done, but some softness and slight gooey-ness is good, you don’t want to over-bake these bars. They will still look underdone when you take them from the oven, but this is okay. Let cool. Enjoy as is, or top with fresh whipped cream and berries. Store leftovers in the refrigerator. Makes about 10 bars.
Enjoy!!
